Xiemas: I was waiting for James Randi to enter the scene Wink

Mello: I love rubiks cubes, and that video was really cool!
Seen this one?

Yeah I saw that one before, but I watched it again because it's been a while, and I really dig how these things work. If it took a computer a little over 4 hours to solve this, just think about how long it would take for a person to do. I thought it was especially cool to see the white green patterns form and change near the end. Good stuff!

That was definitely crazy and cool. Big Grin Add sexy and you'd have a TLC song... Tongue

Here's a couple of amazing pilots flying a Boeing 767 Air Canada flight from Montreal to Edmonton, and run out of fuel in mid air. Somehow they managed to land the plane at a decommissioned air force runway at Gimli Manatoba (near Winnipeg) with 61 passengers and 8 crew. No one died, and the plane was able to return to service later.

How could this happen? How could a plane run out of fuel so far from it's destination? A mistake in conversion between galons and liters. A ground crew worker mistakenly filled the tank with same amount liters of fuel as should have had in gallons. On top of that the fuel gauge was not working, so the pilots had no way of knowing about this mistake.

This is also the first time anyone was able to land such a large aircraft without engine power, what's known as "dead stick" among pilots.

Here's another vid of it:

EDIT: That vid's multi-part, so here's the rest of the parts:

Wow, another reason why we should all just use the metric system. Why we cling to the so called 'standard units of measure' here in the US is beyond me. Most everyone else uses the metric system and it's far easier and more intuitive than standard. I remember when that rover sent to Mars crashed because of the same thing; two different measuring systems used feet and meters...

Actually, I forgot the real cause, it wasn't using gallons instead of liters, it was using ponds instead of kilograms. So the plane needed X kilos of fuel to get from Montreal to Edmonton and instead got X pounds, which amounts to about half the amount they needed for the flight. Also, they did simulator tests with about a dozen pilots in Vancouver and none of them could land the plane like the pilots who were flying at did, all others crashed. That same plane continued to be in active service for at least another 25 years after the disaster. Whenever I'm in a plane those are the sort of pilots I'd want flying it, the kind who find a way to make it go right and land the plane safely as long as it's even remotely flyable.

Indeed! +1 to the pilots!

I'd say more like +69 to the pilots, +1 for every person on board that plane who didn't die in a horrible crash thanks to the skill of those pilots.

Now, if anyone feels like getting a catchy K-Pop song stuck in your head watch this!

And here's another music video for all of you Tongue
