Uncool Scams
Got a story of a scam, or something else uncool you want to share with the community or warn us to look out for? post it here.

Mine is an email I received, supposedly from my college informing me of an account reactivation and providing a bunch of links that don't look right to me. I'm including the text of the email I got so you can see what a probably Phishing attack looks like for those who have not been so attacked yet.

I removed the links which I have not checked myself due to my concerns of this being a scam, but on the advice of Mellow Tonin, who did check them, I have removed all links from the quoted email message.

The real college website is http://www.douglas.bc.ca note how the links in the body of the email have nothing to do with the real address.

RE: Uncool Scams
after a couple minutes of checking the domain onthehub.com (through whois) appears to be legit.

also appears it is a service which schools ETC sign up to.

all looks legit, however I suggest checking with the college

I sent it to their help desk, but either way that is a great example of what how a scan type email would look.

RE: Uncool Scams
I just had to click the links anyways. I put my Internet condom on first, so I wasn't worried about catching the Internet Herpes. I would remove that first link as it appears to give your account name, and at the very least your email address. Seems legit though. You in school for IT related stuff?

I am, and thanks for warning me about those links. This semester I'm studying Network Security and Spanish.
